Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord - Apple Version.

Fix for VER:05-SEP-81 SER:000586

First things first:

- From Wizardry fans, our thanks to 4am for making this 05-SEP-81 version available through the Woz-a-day collection.


Why this version:

- There are fans who have been looking for this version for a long time for various reasons, for example exploring/confirming one-time events, equipment, and what has changed from this version to other versions.


Notes about this particular diskette:

- It has been played before. The presence of some characters in the *ROSTER show that. In addition, it is inconclusive if some one-time events were triggered or not. A least one of those one-time events should be present on an un-played scenario diskette as I remember from playing in 1982. We are still looking for those elusive un-played Proving Grounds scenario diskettes. Could there be other versions?
 

What is the problem with this particular scenario diskette:

- The problem is it is impossible to create new characters in the Training Grounds. If you try, you get the message "THERE IS NOT ROOM LEFT - TRY DELETING". If you try to look at the *ROSTER you get garbage, and only characters named HAWK and GANDALF can be loaded. Besides these two, is it impossible to delete characters to make room for others, therefore the scenario is unplayable without a fix.

The fix:

- Here are the steps I took to fix the scenario diskette.


Step 1:

- Boot with The Big M diskette and go to [2] Scenario Copy Routines.

Step 2: 

-	Put “Wizardry - Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord v2.1 - scenario master disk.woz” in Drive 1.
-	Put “Wizardry- Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord v05-SEP-81 side A - scenario.woz” in Drive 2.
-	Press [RETURN]

REMOUE BOOT DISK FROM DRIUE 1, REPLACE 
WITH *** SOURCE*** SCENARIO DISKETTE.

WHEN THIS IS DONE, PRESS [RETURN]!

Step 3:

- Choose option 5. We want to fix the character creation defect only, preserving the integrity of everything else.

Step 4:

- Enter the following and press [RETURN] again, you will see the transfer progress bar until completion.

Step 5:

- Now, let us prove that it worked. Start the game and go the Training Grounds.

- Issue the *ROSTER command. You will see the full roster, devoid of garbage this time, without destroying HAWK and GANDALF who were already there. Their status is "DEAD", but they are there.

- Create new characters.

- Assemble your party.

- Buy equipment.

- Play!
